What is Beyond the Saddle?
Beyond the Saddle is our unmounted programme designed to support learning, wellbeing, and connection without riding. Through horse-led activities, movement, teamwork, and life-skills experiences, participants build confidence, regulation, communication, and independence at their own pace. Inclusive and adaptable, Beyond the Saddle creates meaningful opportunities for people of all abilities to connect with horses, each other, and their community—on the ground and beyond the ride. This programme is tailored for those with physical, cognitive, or emotional barriers to riding but who would still benefit immensely from working with horses.
Why this Programme?
With a growing waitlist and increasing demand from individuals who do not meet the ridden criteria, Beyond the Saddle ensures more people can access the physical, social, and emotional benefits of equine-assisted activities. Many participants, including those with mobility challenges, sensory sensitivities, or confidence barriers, thrive in ground-based horse interactions that focus on developing strength, coordination, and confidence.
What does it involve?
The programme consists of eight structured sessions running within a term. Each session focuses on progressive skill-building, allowing participants to connect with horses, develop physical fitness, and improve coordination and balance through hands-on activities. Participants will engage in:
Groundwork & Leading – Learning to handle, guide, and move alongside horses safely.
Stable & Horse Care – Building responsibility through grooming, feeding, and daily horse care.
Equine Exercises – Activities designed to improve core strength, balance, and flexibility.
Sensory & Trust Activities – Supporting emotional regulation and confidence through horse interaction.
